Trivandrum Capital Region : Master Plan

The rapid growth of Trivandrum into a Metropolis has necessitated the creation of a 'Master Plan' encompassing not just the city but it immediate suburbs and associated satellite towns. This will span almost the entire district of Trivandrum and cover all key areas of infrastructure and urban planning. The current Master Plan in use in Trivandrum has been out of date for the last two decades or more. The need to create a new one reflecting the needs of one of India's fastest growing cities has been felt in many quarters, including within Trivandrum Development Front (TDF).

In October 2008, Environmental and Development Initiatives for Trivandrum (EDIT), a leading NGO, along with other prominent NGO's including TDF, CCDF, FRAT and TRAC aproached Trivandrum Development Authority (TRIDA) with the urgent need for a new Master Plan. TDF submitted a presentation on TRIVANDRUM CAPITAL REGION and TRIDA was very receptive to the idea. After several rounds of discussions, it has been decided to conduct a comprehensive Seminar where the direction of growth of the city, the consequent demand for urban facilities and the strategy to cater to the growth will be discussed in detail by leading experts in the field as well as people's representatives including Ministers, MPs and MLAs. The Seminar, scheduled for January 28th and 29th, 2009, will aim to create a white paper that will form the foundation for the Master Plan for the Trivandrum Capital Region.

"Trivandrum Development Front (TDF) is proud to be one of the select organisations invited to participate in the closed session. We have also been tasked with updating the delegates on the upcoming developments in the IT/ITES and high-technology sectors as well as to project the demand generated by this growth."

We invite valuable suggestions to be included in our presentation.

Please send your thoughts in summarised points using the Feedback Form, TCR Master Plan Suggestions or at tcrmasterplan@tribiz.in before January 25th 2009.

For a more comprehensive idea of the aim of the Seminar, please download, the Approach Paper to the Second Master Plan for the TCR,prepared by noted urban & environmental planner and development consultant, Mr. A Kasturi Rangan who is leading proceedings in the event.
