Sprawling haphazardly over seven forested hills, this ancient city, once the capital of the kingdom of, is a gateway to
India’s as well as Kerala’s most popular tourist attractions.
Trivandrum opens the gates to a world of beaches,mountains, backwaters, wildlife
sanctuaries, islands, spas and health centres. The city of Trivandrum
presides over one of the most scenic states stretching along the southern coast of the country, with the backwaters of the Arabian Sea reaching deep into the verdant countryside, which offers a fascinating experience. Today Kovalam beach is known as the "Paradise of the South". The weather conditions are tropical throughout and average temperature will be around 18* Celsius to 32* Celsius. The best time to visit Trivandrum is from September to May.

Several historical monuments have been witness to the proud tradition of the city, the Padmanabhaswamy Swamy Temple, after which the city takes its name; Napier Museum, a landmark in the city with its unique ornamentation and architectural style, Sri Chitra Art Galley, Museum & Zoological Garden, are other landmarks. The city is home to several palaces like Kowdiar Palace, Kuthiramalika, Koikkal Palace, Kanakakunnu Palace & Padmanabhapuram Palace, the palace of Travancore Rajas and once the state capital of Travancore.
Apart from these, the city annually hosts several events like International Film Festival, Flower & Aquarium Show, Air show, and several shopping fests which are welcomed by the city dwellers with zest. The city dwellers also celebrate religious festivals like Onam, Arat, Beemapally Urus, Vettukad Perunal, Attukal Pongala with enthusiasm.
Over the past three decades, Trivandrum has been well developed, and now figures prominently on the world tourism map. The city has witnessed around 27.94% (nearly two hundred thousand) and 9.45% (nearly 1 million) increase in the arrival of foreign and domestic tourists. |
